Avian influenza (bird flu) outbreaks

There are currently no detections of avian influenza in Queensland.

Avian influenza is a highly contagious viral infection of birds, including poultry.

Current detections in Australia

Victoria, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory are currently responding to detections of H7 high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI).

Movement controls have been implemented to restrict the movement of birds, poultry products, feed and equipment on or off properties in designated areas around the infected premises.

These outbreaks are not the same as the H5 HPAI strain that is significantly impacting poultry, wild birds and mammals overseas.
