Protecting your property from invasive ants
Invasive (tramp) ants can adversely change natural ecosystems, reduce agricultural production and threaten our outdoor way of life.
There are 2 species of ants targeted for eradication by Biosecurity Queensland - fire ants and electric ants.
Under the Biosecurity Act 2014, everyone, including commercial operators and residents, has a general biosecurity obligation to take measures to reduce the risk of spreading fire ants or electric ants.
How to identify tramp ants
Biosecurity Queensland relies on the support of the community to identify and report fire ants and electric ants. Ensure you know what to be on the lookout for and report suspect ants immediately.
What can you do?
- Understand what fire ants and electric ants look like and what materials they might be moved in.
- Observe movement controls in biosecurity zones.
- Report any suspect ants to Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23.
