Quota
The fishery is managed through:
- total allowable commercial catch (TACC)
- individual transferable quotas (ITQs) units allocated to each licence.
Licences
To operate in the fishery, you need a:
- primary commercial fishing licence with a J1 fishery symbol which allows
- up to 10 divers can operate under a licence at any one time
- commercial fisher licence for the person in charge of fishing activities.
Reporting and monitoring
Commercial fishers must:
- report trip and catch notices
- complete daily logbooks
- keep sale dockets
- have vessel tracking on their boats
- comply with state marine park and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park zoning rules.
Equipment
- One primary boat.
- Up to 4 tender boats.
Target species
- Trochus (Trochus niloticus)
Size limits
- Trochus minimum size limit is 8cm (across the widest part of the opening).
- Trochus maximum size limit is 12.5cm (across the widest part of the opening).
