Transfer your quota
You can transfer your quota to another commercial fisher, if they have the same fishery symbol on their primary commercial fishing licence.
The quota holder (owner) and the transferee (purchaser/lessee) agree to an amount of ITQ units or effort units to be transferred on the transfer form.
This transfer can be either:
- temporary—provides the transferee with the use of the quota until the end of the quota season in which the transfer occurs
- permanent—the transferee becomes the owner of the quota.
The quota holder (owner) and transferee (purchaser/lessee) complete sections of the form, and their signatures must be witnessed.
Temporary transfers
There are 2 ways to register:
- the quota holder can process the request through FishNet Secure
- or
- submit the temporary transfer quota application.
Permanent transfers
Both parties must complete sections of the permanent transfer quota application.
Either party can pay the application fee of $183.86.
Quota certificates
Quota certificates are only sent to the quota holder after the permanent transfer of quota or effort units is registered by Fisheries Queensland.
You will not receive an updated certificate:
- if you temporarily transfer quota or effort units
- or
- after every six-monthly fee notice payment.
