Retained fish notice
Certain fisheries can retain their fish and start a new fishing operation, without having to unload before they go back to sea:
- B1: Beche-de-mer (sea cucumber) fishery (east coast)
- R: Crayfish and rock lobster fishery
- RQ: Coral reef fin fish fishery
- SM: Spanish mackerel fishery
- T1: Trawl fishery
- T2: Trawl fishery
- M1: Moreton Bay trawl
- M2: Moreton Bay trawl
- T4: Trawl fishery (fin fish)
Who needs to report
The commercial fisher in control of the fishing operation is responsible for meeting the reporting requirements.
These licence holders must give a retained fish notice:
- B1: Beche-de-mer (sea cucumber) fishery (east coast)
- R: Crayfish and rock lobster fishery
- RQ: Coral reef fin fish fishery
- SM: Spanish mackerel fishery
- T4: Trawl fishery (fin fish).
These licence holders do not need to give a retained fish notice:
When to report
- B1, R, RQ and SM licence holders: within 24 hours after the fishing operation ends or before the start of the next fishing operation—whichever occurs first.
- T4 licence holders: within 7 days after the fishing operation ends or before the start of the next fishing operation—whichever occurs first.

Report the accurate number of quota fish or containers of fish retained.
