Automated Interactive Voice Response (AIVR) phone system

The AIVR phone system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you are a commercial fisher, you can use the AIVR phone system to:

  • check quota balances
  • report notices
  • check your vessel tracking unit is polling
  • manually report your position if a vessel tracking unit malfunctions (primary vessel only).

The commercial fisher in control of the fishing operation must be the person who calls the AIVR system to:

  • give notices
  • manually report the GPS position of the primary boat if a vessel tracking unit malfunctions.

Report your notices or check quota balances

Use the AIVR system to report:

Step 1: Call your fishery AIVR phone number

Call the phone number for the fishery you are operating in:

Step 2: Follow the prompts

The first time you call the AIVR system, you will need to enter your:

  • primary commercial fishing licence number
  • primary commercial fishing licence PIN.

The system will remember these details. You only need to enter them again if your PIN or details change.

Each time you call, you will need to enter your:

  • commercial fisher licence number
  • commercial fisher licence PIN.

To find or change your PINs, log in to FishNet Secure.

Follow the prompts to report your notices or check your quota balances.

Step 3: Record your transaction number

After you have completed a notice, a transaction number will be read to you. Record this number as evidence that you have complied with the reporting requirement.

For some notices, you must record the transaction number in your logbook—check the logbook instructions.

If you don't receive a transaction number, your notice has not been submitted.

Confirm your vessel tracking unit is polling

You must confirm your vessel tracking unit is polling before commencing a commercial fishing operation.

Step 1: Call the AIVR phone system

Before you commence a commercial fishing operation, call (07) 3031 8283 and follow the prompts.

Each time you call the AIVR system, you will need to enter your:

  • primary commercial fishing licence number
  • primary commercial fishing licence PIN.

To find or change your PIN, log in to FishNet Secure.

Step 2: Check the status of your vessel tracking units

The AIVR system will read out the status of all vessel tracking units associated with your licence as one of the following:

  • working
  • not working
  • tentatively working.

Not working

If the status is 'not working', check the power to the unit and ensure it has a clear view of the sky.

Tentatively working

If the status is 'tentatively working' your unit is either not polling at the required rate or has had insufficient polls to confirm that it is operating correctly. Call back in 10 minutes to check that this unit is working.

If more than 1 unit is registered to a boat mark, it will cause status errors. Make sure your units are accurately registered so you can obtain confirmation for the authorised boat being used. To register vessel tracking units, log in to FishNet Secure.

Step 3: Record your transaction number

At the end of the call, you can request to have the confirmation sent to a mobile phone number via SMS.

Finally, a transaction number will be read to you. Record this number as evidence that you have complied with the reporting requirement.

If you don't receive a transaction number, the confirmation has not been recorded.

Manually report your location

If the vessel tracking unit on your primary boat malfunctions, you must report your location manually.

Find out how often you must manually report and what else you must do if your unit malfunctions.
