Applying for a coordinated project declaration under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971
You may apply to the Coordinator-General to have your proposed resource (or non-resource) project declared a ‘coordinated project’ for which an environmental impact statement (EIS) is required. A coordinated project must have 1 or more of the following characteristics:
- complex approval requirements, involving local, state and federal governments
- significant environmental effects
- strategic significance to the locality, region or state, including for the infrastructure, economic and social benefits, capital investment or employment opportunities it may provide
- significant infrastructure requirements.
While you may choose to apply for a coordinated project declaration, the Coordinator-General is not bound to declare a project merely because the project has 1 or more of the above characteristics. Pre-lodgement discussions and preliminary documentation would assist suitability of the coordinated project pathway.
Before you begin
We strongly recommend that you contact the Office of the Coordinator-General to organise a pre-lodgement meeting before making an application.
You should already be a registered suitable operator.
How to apply
To seek the declaration of a coordinated project, you must apply to the Coordinator-General in writing.
Read the application requirements for a coordinated project declaration (PDF, 194KB) and check the overview of fees (PDF, 146KB).
More information
Read the following guides for additional information:
- Pre-lodgement meeting (strongly recommended)
- Preparing an environmental impact statement - guideline for proponents (PDF, 357KB) for a coordinated project.
Resource projects must prepare a social impact assessment (SIA). Other coordinated projects may also be required to undertake an SIA. This is a requirement for all resource projects in the EIS process under the Strong and Sustainable Resource Communities Act 2017.
Next steps
Prepare your application and email it to cpdinfo@coordinatorgeneral.qld.gov.au.
