Receiving an environmental impact statement decision
Before you begin
EIS decision under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971
Before you receive notice that an environmental impact statement (EIS) can proceed to public notification or the evaluation stage, you must submit the draft EIS to the Coordinator-General for evaluation under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 (SDPWO Act).
Public notification
The Coordinator-General considers all properly made public submissions received during the public notification and, if required, requests you to provide additional information as part of a revised draft EIS.
Evaluation stage
Once the Coordinator-General is satisfied with the draft EIS or revised draft EIS, they accept the EIS as the final EIS. The Coordinator-General must prepare a report evaluating the EIS recommending the project:
- proceed subject to conditions and recommendations designed to ensure the project's environmental impacts are properly managed
- be refused on the grounds its environmental impacts cannot be adequately addressed.
EIS decision under the Environmental Protection Act 1994
Before you receive notice that an EIS under the Environmental Protection Act 1994 (EP Act) can proceed to the final stages, you must complete the EIS process. This includes responding to submissions and making any necessary amendments to the submitted EIS.
Completion of the EIS evaluation process
At the completion of the EIS evaluation process under the SDPWO Act, the Coordinator-General must prepare a report evaluating the EIS.
At the completion of the EIS assessment process under the EP Act, the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation will prepare and issue an EIS assessment report to you.
