Extend probationary period
If you and your apprentice or trainee need more time to assess the compatibility and suitability of the apprenticeship or traineeship, you can apply to extend the probationary period.
You must not extend it more than 6 months past the start date of the apprenticeship or traineeship.
Step 1: Apply for the extension at least 14 days before the end of the probationary period to your Apprentice Connect Australia Provider, using Form ATF-036.
Step 2: Provide the following:
- reason(s) for the extension
- revised end date of the probationary period.
Step 3: If approved, the decision will be made within 7 days and you'll be notified in writing.
